This is a sample from the printer of a 1" tall bottle with 6 sides and a 60 degree twist to the body and threaded lid. Both bottle and lid are built at the same time in the printer. This took 1 hour for the machine to make.

This is another sample supplied by the manufacturer of the printer. It is half of the body shell of a pager and took 1.5 hours to build.

Nokia Phone Piece

My House

I was just playing around on this sample. The flexibility of the build process allows a shape of any complexity to be built as one piece. This build took two hours for the machine to complete.

This is a sample I've done of a piece that protects a circuit board inside a old Nokia phone that I took apart. In the close up photos you can see the weave of ABS created during the build process. I'm investigating the use of sandblasting to smooth the weave without destroying the details as this would be difficult to sand a part like this. An improvement to the software for the machine, coming soon, will allow the closing of the small gaps showing in the part. This part took 7.5 hours to create as an STL file and 1.5 hours to build.

My first official job with the printer. The back 90 degree corner and the curving front will extruded from aluminum and the end caps will be cast in metal. The  aluminum pieces are 8 inches tall and are 807 layers tall. The end caps are about 5 inches square. The end caps will be screwed to the corner extrusion and the curving front snaps into place on the corner extrusion and the end caps. All four parts took 29 hours for the machine to build. The STL files where supplied by Tag Hardware and the sample was made to verify the design for functionality.

This is the first build that I have done from my own files. I thought I would go with something familiar, so I built my own house.  The model was built to teach me how to use the machine, so It was painted exactly as it came out of the machine, with no finishing done. So the textures left by the weave of the modeling material evident in the photo's can be sanded out in future prototypes. The model was built in 8 pieces, strictly to ease painting.  All the pieces took a total of 7 hours to build.

I have now finished the model and repainted. This took about 15 hours total. Next I will be adding doors and windows. The parts are loose in the photos so I can add the rest of the details and the floor to the train room is not in place.
